This is a great tv for a kitchen area. We have a large kitchen so I think a bit bigger of a tv would have been better but for as much as we use it, it's great.

The sound quality is really good. We use it mostly for watching DVD's and have had no trouble. It's very sleek and stylish and my kids can use it with ease.

I just got this today. BEAUTIFUL picture, but when you get it, check which picture type it is set on. I noticed that writing on screen in a newscast was blurry and couldn't figure out why. Turns out it was on the Sports setting. Once I changed that and changed my Dish box to 720 vs 1080, everything cleared up. I can't say enough about the picture--I replaced a Sylvania 15-inch HDTV that I've had for a year or so. It had a pretty lousy picture quality. Haven't tried out the DVD player yet, but hoping it will be as good. I got a great deal (I think) at under $200. The only thing that is not perfect is that the stand--it is static and can't be tilted back or turned side to side. But once I got the TV into a good position for viewing that wasn't a terrible problem. The supplier sent it free 2-day shipping/no tax--although it wasn't Amazon but a 3rd party (Electronic Express). GREAT service!! I'll tell you that after days and days of snow and being stuck inside this TV is the best thing that has happened in days!! I did feel bad for the FedEx driver though...

Edited to add that after having used this TV for a while, I am wondering why all the comments about the sound. The sound on mine is great and can be heard easily even when the dishwasher is running. In fact, I find myself turning the sound down often. Secondly, I finally made use of the DVD player to watch Julie&Julia. EXCELLENT!! Easy to use--push a button to switch from TV to DVD, pop in the DVD and off we go. I have also found that the immobile stand is not a problem. When I need a different angle, I just turn the TV in the viewing direction. Easy as pie. This is one of very few LCD TVs that will fit under my kitchen cabinets. Picture quality (with cable TV input) is excellent. Have not really tested the tuner; the cable is there because the kitchen provides too much shielding to get much signal with an antenna. Sound quality is perfectly OK, nothing exceptional. The DVD player seemed pointless, but it has been useful on a few occasions, and it doesn't take up much space. What I really wanted, but could not find (are you listening, Toshiba?), is a TV like this with a mount that would allow the TV to be suspended from the front edge of the cabinet underside (an under-cabinet mount different from those I could find) and, when not in use, you could pull the bottom of the TV out and then slide the whole thing under the cabinet. We replaced our digital tuner / non-HD Polaroid 15" television in our kitchen, with this HDTV/DVD combo unit. We are VERY pleased with the purchase and feel the value for the $$'s was well worth the upgrade! The TV fits perfectly on a small lazy susan situated on a counter top under a set of our kitchen cabinets. The lower profile, due to it's wide-screen design, allows a better fit in this application versus the replaced Polaroid. Of the other units we researched, this one came highly rated for it's sound quality versus similar sized TV's. After watching it for a couple of months, we see why. The sound quality is equal to our larger 36" and 42" HDTVs. The reaction time to receive a picture when first turning on the unit, is a little slow, but not unlike other HDTV's we have. The remote control features are well designed and easy to access at quick glance. The integrated DVD player is very asthetically pleasing and desingned in a way that it fits into the TV cabinet without looking like an 'add on'. The picture quality is super and agian rivals those of our larger HDTV's. I was looking for an LCD tv that I could use in our kitchen that had a DVD player built in. There were plenty of larger tvs available, but I wanted something in the 15 inch range. This one fit the bill nicely. I've had it for about 3 months now.

Pros:
Small tv fits perfectly in the corner of our counter
Auto-search feature for channels found all of our digital and HD channels with no problem
The picture is very clear, and colors are very deep
The sound is loud enough that I can hear it in the other room and over kitchen appliances
DVD player built in, so no extra counter space is wasted.

Cons:
Can't wall mount
Channel tuning is VERY slow. Extremely painful just trying to "surf" to find something to watch.

The Picture is great on sd and hd content, dvd player works well! the sound is fine, I use this tv in front of my treadmill and am able to hear the movies over the ambient noise with or without using headphones no problem what so ever, again I am very close to the tv and it is on a shelf at head height. I was a bit concerned about the screen size at first but it works well in my application! I have not tried this feature yet but I feel I must make comment on it, one of the pros in my list of reasons to buy this was Amazons listing of it being able to play DIVX files off a burnt disc. I wanted to write a review because I always scan the reviews before I purchase a product. I am completely satisfied with this little set. The picture quality is fine despite the fact that I generally look at the set from an angle. It is quite compact, which is just what I wanted. I have also moved it from room to room easily. When I'm not moving it (which is most of the time), I keep it on a shelf. It is never in the way.

As one reviewer mentioned, due to the proportions of this screen, sometimes the image is smaller than the entire screen area. I've found this doesn't bother me at all. I don't even notice it.

There is also a lag after you turn it on. This is a bit annoying at times, but generally I tune into things a few minutes early, so it doesn't really matter. I don't find as much of a lag when switching channels. After the set is "on," the time between changing channels is pretty similar to what I experienced with my old set.

One last point: the setup must have been easy since I can't recall anything about it. Just for fun I plugged my Bose computer speakers into the earphone jack and it sounded exceptional! I experienced no undue delay turning it on or changing channels, as some reviewers have complained. I purchased this tv to replace the old one we had on our kitchen countertop that required the digital converter and antenna. Well, we don't need the converter, but we need an antenna and at least 2-3 times a day, we say either "this tv sucks" or "we need cable." Actually the tv doesn't suck. when it works, it has great picture and very good sound, but it just doesn't pick up the digital signal as well as we had hoped. We fuss and fidget with the antenna and it ends up taking up too much counterspace, defeating the purpose of the smaller tv. The DVD player works great. So now we want to get cable in the kitchen and mount the tv on the wall and we are confronted with the issue of being unable to mount the tv. The Toshiba website even tells you -- it did not put the necessary screws and wholes on the back of the tv to attach an adapter for wall mounting.

If you are certain you will NEVER want to mount this tv on the wall, then it is for you. But if there is just any slight possibility, dont' get this one.

Oh, and as far as the lag time in starting after you turn it on, my other lcd 32" Sony does the same thing.
