Low Price Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch Widescreen LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player (Black)

Got this for a tv to watch in the kitchen while cooking or getting ready for work. It's just what we needed. We get by with a small antenna, which lets us put it in a few locations. And the DVD player is a big bonus. I'd recommend it to a friend.Get more detail about Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch Widescreen LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player (Black).

Overall this little TV is OK. I was concerned with 1. Off axis brightness and 2. sound quality.
1. Off axis brightness is maybe a little better than average for small TVs.
2 Sound quality is fine. Volume is more than adequate.
3 Slow tuner that most mention: Yes it's very slow to change channels. One little wrinkle - the channels actually change pretty fast. It's the picture that takes a few seconds to appear, so if you want to go up say 6 channels you can punch through them pretty quickly then only have to wait about 3 seconds for the picture to appear once you reach your desired channel. I decided to give this TV a try because it's a kitchen TV that I use to catch some news and weather in the morning, so I rarely change channels.Get more detail about Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch Widescreen LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player (Black).

I am very pleased with this tv/dvd player. It has very good picture and sound quality. I LOVE that it is so compact. I replaced a 19" conventional tv with this and can't believe how much less space it takes! The whole room seems more open. I have other Toshiba tv's and have never been disappointed with the brand. As with the other reviewers I have a bit of an issue with the channel changing delay but I can deal with it for the price I paid. I would say this is a stellar value!Get more detail about Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch Widescreen LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player (Black).

I had been eyeing small tvs for my bedroom for some time and when I saw this tv at a great rate (under $200)I knew it was time to go for it! It was a great surprise to me that it's a known brand, the picture quality is great, and the appearance is sleek, uncluttering a whole corner of my bedroom where my old 13" tube sat. And the fact that is has a built-in DVD player to boot! What a steal! Both the tv and the DVD player have been great!

The sound is a bit off in terms of needing to turn it up pretty loud when you are watching the tv with others and when you want it low the gap between low and just above low is pretty wide. Also, the light to indicate whether it's on or off is pretty big an bright. Luckily it doesn't bother me but I can imagine some people being sensitive to it. It's red when it's off and blue when it's on.Get more detail about Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch Widescreen LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player (Black).

This is a very nice t.v. for the price. It is a perfect size for the kitchen, it has a nice picture & good sound. The only thing I don't like about it is that it takes a few seconds to change channels, so if you are just channel surfing, it takes forever.Get more detail about Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch Widescreen LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player (Black).

When considering this TV, do not believe the overall sound rating by my fellow reviewers, which at the time of this writing was four stars. Its tinny, underpowered sound beats out laptop speakers only in loudness (not in sound quality). I think that when Toshiba built this TV, they made a decision that anyone buying a TV this small wasn't particularly picky about their electronics. Well, they can pat themselves on the back because they under-delivered perfectly.

The DVD picture is good -- like watching a DVD on a computer screen. I only have a standard-def TV signal coming into the RF (coaxial cable) input, so I cannot rate the picture quality for HD. However, I can say that if you have a standard definition signal as I do, you will notice how much worse the broadcast picture is than on DVDs.

Two final points: First, I imagine that most people put this kind of TV in their kitchen. I do. Toshiba, like many manufacturers, seems to be afraid to put buttons on the front panel. On this TV, they opted to put the buttons on top of the TV, which makes for awkward pressing if the TV sits beneath a cabinet. If you want to, say, eject a DVD, you have to memorize the button placement of the DVD ejector (furthest button on the right).

Second, it would be nice if the stand that held the TV were adjustable. I placed a Bose Wave Radio in front of it and hooked the TV into the radio to give it the sound it needed. But as a consequence, I needed to purchase a flat panel monitor stand to compensate.

As I don't own another small TV, I cannot recommend what you should buy in its place. But if you purchase this, consider if the button placement will bother you and whether you are okay with laptop speaker-quality sound.Get more detail about Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch Widescreen LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player (Black).

I bought this TV as a gift to my father for his 60th Birthday. Let's just say that he was pleasantly surprised at the gift!

First we hooked it up to his Standard Def. DVR box and he was very happy with the picture. He especially liked the color representation. A few weeks later when he got an HD DVR and connected it via HDMI, he was completely blown away at the clarity and quality of the image. He couldn't keep his eyes from the TV during the Yankees opening game. The speakers are adequate for viewing most TV shows, however they would be a bit lacking for dynamic audio in action type movies. I think the next step is to get my dad a Soundbar speaker system; small and easy to use/connect.

The only negatives I can see is the glass surface which is pretty reflective. Do not position the TV so it faces a window that cannot be fully blocked by blinds or drapes, otherwise you will have some reflections to deal with during dark scenes. Also the Remote is not very responsive and has a limited field of use and distance. However it may be that the included batteries have lost some of their charge. Will have to try with fresh batteries and/or a universal remote. I haven't notciced any "buzzing" sounds from the TV, however I wasn't listening for it the last time I was at my parents.

The TV is especially light for a plasma, heck it's even lighter than my 2008 120hz Samsung LCD and puts out less heat! How's that for improvements in Plasma technology?! There are plenty of legacy connections (composite and component) in addition to the 3 HDMI ports on the TV for hooking up both old and new devices. I will say that to get the best picture, you NEED to have an HD device connected to the TV using HDMI. It's worth it.

This TV provides a FANTASTIC bargain for people looking for an entry level HDTV.Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

I am a college student on a limited budget. After saving up for a new TV for my new apartment, I was AMAZED to see this television priced at around $500. Though I was a bit skeptical because it is only 720p, I rationalized that spending an extra $300 or so was not worth it.

The TV has been set up for about 4 days now. I must say that the picture is incredible (this is after seeing it in Best Buy and not being impressed by the picture at all). All of the HD channels on Comcast look amazing, and it is as sharp and as clear as similar 1080p plasmas I have checked out. This was the biggest surprise to me, because I expected the picture to be good, but not THIS good.

There is one issue, and that is a slight buzzing sound that is emitted from the TV. There is one. It is nearly drowned out from the audio of the TV, my fridge, and the city noise, but it is still there and noticeable when the TV is on mute. This is a bit annoying, but the real only issue with this product.

Setting up this TV was so simple. Some people have commented that screwing in the stand is extremely difficult, however I had no such issue. They are a bit tough, but once you get them going it isn't anything impossible. HDMI cords that I bought on amazon for $1 hooked up flawlessly, and I have an HDMI to DVI cord for my MacBook Pro and it looks great (audio hooked up with a 3.5mm male to male cord into the dvi audio out on the TV and the headphone jack on my laptop that you can buy on amazon or monoprice for $3).

All in all, this TV is a heck of a deal. The picture is breathtaking, the craftsmanship is stellar, and the unit looks very elegant. 5 stars, easy. Can't wait to watch the world cup on this guy!Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

This is our first flat screen TV. After monthes of researching reviews and prices, we decided on this one because of the great reviews and the good price. The picture is amazing and it was easy to setup/hookup. We don't have access to cable or satalite where we live, so we were dependent on a converter box on our old analog TV after all the broadcasts went digital. With this TV we are able to get all of the channels we got before plus the tuner picked up a few new ones. The picture is amazing - very bright and clear.I would recomend this TV for anyone looking for a set this size but not able/willing to spend hundreds more. The remote is easy to use and the instructions are very clear and easy to understand. So far, I don't have anything negative to say about this set.Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

I would have to agree with others who gave this product a five star rating. I don't believe there is another TV out there, either Plasma or LCD (of course, you cannot really compare the two due to their unique characteristics and applications) that provide the buyer with such value/features/quality versus cost. Be aware however, that those who commented regarding the difficulty with the screws attaching the TV to base. It's going to be in your favor contacting Arnold Schwarzenegger for an assist, as I'm not lacking in strength myself, yet several times was near the point of stripping the phillips head on the screws. And one last comment. Plasma TV's do not have glare reducing screens (in order to preserve their vibrancy/sharpness/blurr reduction they are so renowned for), so are best viewed in slightly darkened rooms (there is a dynamic setting to reduce this for light room conditions). For those who purchase this set - Enjoy!Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

One more vote for a great deal TV. Easy to hook up. I was prepared for the struggle on the stand assembly. I had the right tools but I pity those who don't. My guess is that Samsung is using self-tapping screws. The idea being that the screws will not come loose over time. Its hard to believe that Samsung didn't relaize this situation. Still learning the remote functions. I'm sure I'll get used to it. So far, no misc lines or humming. Of course, I will keep the box for now. I read that the warranty period is 24 months if you register online. I will do that today and report back if that is not the case.Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

Bought this TV today at Se*rs (online & store pickup)for $539. Great picture with Comcast HD. I find the speakers to be fine for regular TV viewing but I use my surround system for DVD viewing and using our HTPC with the TV.

Picture is crisp and clear, lots of fine tuning available in the menus. Yes only one component input (shares with 1 of the composite inputs)but 3 HDMI, 1 component and 1 composite are plenty for me.

Slight cons are power cord is a bit short and a bit of glare if in a room with a lot of windows. TV does NOT come with any cables other than power cord. Remote does seem to need to be pointed directly at TV, minor annoyance, getting a Harmony remote soon anyway.

I did come back here and got a SquareTrade 3 yr warranty. $47 vrs $200 for Se*rs, no-brainer.

UPDATE 4-08: if you go online to Samsung and register the TV there the warranty doubles to TWO YEARS. I called Samsung afterwards just to verify this and it is correct. Makes a great buy better.Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

I bought this TV from here on Amazon (via 'Video & Audio Center' - who shipped it really fast!! A+) and received it on April 3rd, as others have said, it's great. There's nothing that comes close to it for the price, it really looks great (cosmetically and picture quality), is slim and lightweight, and has great connectivity. I'm even pleasantly surprised at the audio quality, I can definitely get it loud enough for my living room.
-- I have one BIG disappointment though: on the samsung website for this exact model (and here on amazon) it says that through the "ConnectShare" feature you can view MOVIES, photos, and music. Once I purchased it and read the manual I noticed it said only photos and music, and indeed when I connected a USB drive I only have options for photos or music - HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT and false advertising. If anyone knows what the deal is with this please post an answer, but I'm very disappointed with this fact. The remote even has buttons for the media player, so why no movies? The advertising specs should be updated to correct this, and I knocked off a star because of this.
-- Only other "cons" would be the lack of swivel on the TV stand - would be nice to have some quick flexibility on the positioning of the screen. And as another reviewer said, the TV buzzes a bit louder than expected, but I only notice it when everything else in the room is quiet and nothing is playing on the TV. These are very minor things though and in no way make me regret this purchase -- it's a 5-star TV for sure if it wasn't for the false "ConnectShare" promises.Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

I picked this up on sale as a new TV for my bedroom. I took a look at the differences between this and an equal tech LCD, and besides very slight advantages the LCD held (eg - white letters on a black background) this plasma TV blew it out of the water. I was on edge if I made the right decision...until I got this home and hooked it up!

VS. the comparable tech LCD:
Truer flesh tone/skin color
Greens/blues (nature shows) blow away LCD depth
Blacks show comparably deep, if not deeper

I had read a ton of reviews on this TV before I made the purchase, just because I couldn't believe that this great of a TV could come out of this low of a price! Staring at all of the TVs on the local Best Buy's TV wall gave me second thoughts. Compared to all the latest and greatest 55" LED's, this TV doesn't seem to stand out, but it has an amazing picture and for the price...it's a must have.

True, the sound doesn't really deserve 5 stars, but if you already have a home entertainment system it won't matter; if you don't, the switch between voice and action scenes will be a bit annoying for late night viewing.

If you're hesitant to pick this up, don't be! Great quality, amazing picture, and thinking you can't get a good TV for $540 is a lie - this TV proves it!Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

THIS BEAUTIFUL TELEVISION ARRIVED TODAY AND EVEN THOUGH MY HAND IS STILL SORE FROM SCREWING THOSE SIX SCREWS INTO THE STAND (I MUST BE GETTING OLD) I'M STILL GIVING THIS PLASMA TV 5 STARS. Pros:
- Good black levels for price. Much better than comparable LCD.
- Very light.
- Low heat output.
- Vibrant colors.
- Very attractive glossy outside. Comes with cleaning cloth.

Cons:
- Color accuracy is dodgy.
- No RCA inputs.
- Internal speakers are tinny, but acceptable.

Overall:
A really good TV for a very cheap price. It's impressive to see the features that are so quickly trickling down to the lower end sets. Thus far, I'm very happy with the performance. The color accuracy is an issue. Certain shades of blue look positively purple. Tuning helps alleviate this to a degree, but never gets rid of it. The black levels are very good for the price. They easily outperform LCD's of similar prices, but aren't as good as other, more expensive plasmas.

If you can find a Panasonic Viera used on eBay from one or two seasons ago, you'll get better image quality for a similar price. Also, if you're willing to bump up your expenditure to one of Panasonic's entry-level Viera plasmas, you'll get better performance and 1080p. Low heat and power consumption on this model is very appealing, though, and might be a good reason to skip the extra money and go with this.

I have a lot of old gear kicking around, which means the lack of an RCA input was problematic. If everything you work with is either HDMI or Component, you're good. If not, you'll need a receiver or converter box.Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

So...I was pessimistic at first considering the 1 & 2 star reviews. Now that I have it, have configured it, and have it set up with Dish HD and PS3, I am overwhelmed. Here is my pros and cons:

Pros - Amazing colors, excellent menus w/ lots of useful options, great inputs/outputs (in my opinion), amazing and highly customizable sound, great zooming features for fitting motion pictures to the size of the screen, extremely useful picture burn protection tools, great plug-and-play features, and a cool little melody that plays when turning off and on

Cons - Picture is sometimes blurry during fast, vivid action or quick camera change moments (ex. The Rock San Francisco chase scene or Speed Racer Grand Prix race scene), the need to adjust the picture zoom sometimes to protect from picture burn simply because it's a plasma TV (but it has tools that help you protect against this!)

This is hands-down, bar-none the best TV for the value. I've researched all the plasma and LCD TVs in this price range. This is the biggest TV with the highest refresh rate and most appealing features I could find. Plus, Samsung is praised for the quality of it's plasma TVs. When you see the menu, explore the options, and use them, you will praise them yourself. For example, there is a section on burn protection that allows you to set a pixel shifting function to prevent picture burn and a scrolling function that allows you to get rid of it if it happens.

The "straw that broke the camel's back" though for me was the 3.5mm sound output on the back. First of all, it's hard nowadays to find a good TV w/ a 3.5mm sound jack. This one does! Second, it doesn't cut the TV volume off. I hooked up a microphone headphone volume amplifier to it, and now I can control the headphone and actual TV volume separately! Trust me, this is useful. For example, when a significant other doesn't want to hear your program, you can just pop on your headphones and blast the volume! Imagine explosions and firefights, all the while, your spouse or whoever is reading a book or sleeping a few feet away. Ha!

Anyways, it's a good deal for the cash. I'll update in a few months.Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

Like a few of the other reviews said i was also a little skeptical about ordering the set but went ahead with it anyway, i couldn't be happier. I don't have an HD cable box or anything like that but the tv found a ton of channels i didn't have before as well as finding a few in HD. Being a plasma i decided to turn the contrast and brightness down to about half to avoid burn in as much as possible, it seems to be working rather well, the set seems to avoid burn in and image retention pretty well on it's own so i am not worried about it. I haven't noticed any image retention or signs of burn in yet so all seems well. The only downside that i can find is that some of the standard def. channels look rather blurry which is expected. I also have an xbox 360 hooked up to the tv and it looks amazing. I'm not a heavy gamer, only about an hour or so per day unless i'm really into the game but i do play quite a few games that have static images on the screen and with the brightness and contrast turned down i haven't noticed any image retention at all. I would recommend this set to anyone that wants a large tv for a great price. Overall a great buy! I'm very happy.Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

This set replaces a 50" Sony LCD projection HDTV that fell victim to the blue dots of death. It's hooked up to a Motorola HD DVR set top box through HDMI. It's been an adjustment going down to 42" from 50" but it's getting easier. The picture on HD channels is excellent and standard def channels look a lot better than they did on the Sony. The set itself is beautiful and looks great in our living room. The sound is good and there's no buzzing.

The only issues that I have noticed with this TV are the screw holes used for attaching the stand and room brightness. There's no excuse for the poor job Samsung did with not properly threading the ten holes on the stand. As for the brightness of the room, this TV performs better in darker rooms. We've got heavy blinds that block out a lot of light so it's not that big of a deal for us. If you can't control the lighting in the room that you plan on using this set in, then you should probably look at another set.

I gave the whole 1080p vs 720p a lot of thought before purchasing this set. I shouldn't have bothered-it's just marketing hype, in my opinion. All I can say is that the picture's better than the one I got on the Sony. And getting it for $539 makes it that much better. Oh, and don't forget the SquareTrade three year warranty for $47...Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black) Best Quality

Wednesday, April 21, 2010 0 comments

I just purchased this TV 3 days ago. I was considering getting a set with 1080 P, but I went with this brand new 720P plasma TV. The picutre is awesome, and the sound is pretty good as well. (All 42 inch TV's come with 2 10 watt speakers; you can always hook up to a stereo). For whatever reason, when I plug my set into an upconvert player, the screen resolution is 1920 by 1080.(awesome picture using an HDMI cable) If you are looking for a great picture with decent sound, this is your set. You cannot beat the price. They are so hot that Amazon can't keep them in stock. Oh, did I tell you that the set looks elegant? It does. The only downside I see so far is that the 10 screws you need to attach the base are a little difficult to screw in. The holes shoud be a little bigger. But that really is the only negative I see. So get off the fence and go buy it. I don't think you will regret it (*One other thing, most shows on TV are still broadcasted in high defintion, but it's 720 P.)Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

I originally was going to buy the new LG but the samsung just looked better overall and I was hearing good things about their plasmas. Initially adjusted the set and it looked pretty nice, and it was great with higher resolution inputs. Sometimes the picture would seem blurry with cable or the a/v input. I did some more investigating after I began to realize why it looked strange. Whenever contrasting colors would come together say- yellow and blue- I would notice a halo or you could even say a bleeding of color would happen when they came together. Now this problem was even stranger because you could see that it was only affecting the left and right sides of the image not the top and bottom, i.e. if text were being displayed the letter "o" would appear as "(o)" with the outside lines being a little lighter. My DVD player looked great running through the component inputs, but, I checked for the problem here thinking it could just be the lower quality connection of running through a crappy cable box. The DVD was still looking good but I did notice a hint of the same thing happening here, albeit very subtle. I'm getting worried this is a problem that might have been overlooked with this television. My settings were very conservative for an initial set-up and looking at the internal test screen noticed the black side faintly showing blue as it came to the blue border, and so one with each consecutive color. This shouldn't happen. Anyway long story short, chatted and called samsung support and they couldn't do anything for me because the tv isn't technically released yet. The reps aren't trained on it and on the phone I was told to take it back. So I did. If this TV was going to have high resolution hookups only, I might have never noticed, but if you're like me and still have a ps2 and a gamecube this might not be the tv for you. Too bad Panasonic is dropping the ball cause that would have been an easy sale for them. Maybe that LG doesn't look so bad now, too bad the sale on it is over!Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

Just received the TV today! It arrived a day early, which was a pleasant surprise. Once I fired it up, I was ecstatic with this set. The quality is amazing for the price, the picture blows away a top of the line 42" 1080p LCD display that I've seen. Deep rich colors, high contrast, fluid motion...there is nothing not to like! Streamed Spartacus off Netflix, and compared to my old little 22" LCD it really came to life.(Even if the writing is really bad)

It was able to find some basic cable channels in HD, which is awesome, and Modern Warfare 2 looks simply astounding (again, much better than on aforementioned 42" and 22" LCDs.)

The sound is decent, it's actually better than I was expecting. It's obviously no Home Theatre, but I was impressed. It's got a few connections which aren't listed on Amazon...the 3 HDMI, 1 PC, 1 USB, 1 Component, 1 Dual Component/Composite, Audio In 1/8", Audio Out 1/8", Optical out, and cable. The menu is very easy to navigate and adjust, and in it you can turn off it's startup/shut down sound if you find it irritating. It's kinda soothing though.

One negative I've found is that the audio running out isn't controlled by the televisions volume, I guess that's pretty standard, but it means my cheap computer speakers aren't much good. (No remote) Also when installing the base stand it felt like I was about to destroy the thread on the screws that are used...They aren't easy to get in there!

It's very elegant, and looks great in my living room. It's not super bright, which I love (LCD panels hurt my eyes after a while) All in all, for the money it's a fantastic TV. I was looking for quality, affordability, and style.Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).

I am truly impressed with this TV. I have been researching LCD and Plasmas for a little while and found this to be the best HDTV for the price. I had a chance to check it out at a local retailer beforehand and compared to other TVs in the store this one completely stood out. Picture was MUCH better than the 1080 models which were more than twice the price. The Sony next to it showed people with grey suits while this one had deep black and vibrant color. The specs (2million:1 contrast, 600hz) blow away anything I could find in this range and the picture is simply fantastic. Plus you can't beat this price!

I ordered this TV on a Tuesday night, received it on Thursday and the guy brought it to my door(4th floor walkup in NYC). I guess Beach Camera should receive the credit there.

Set it up and the TV was able to find a bunch of HD channels and channels I didn't have before, so that's a big plus. I have to say, like the other review, installing the stand was a pain in the ass. I don't think the screw holes were completely drilled out, but I managed.

Sound is great, no buzzing or anything. It is very sleek and stylish and makes my living room look great. Menu is very easy to navigate and viewing pictures with a card reader or USB is a snap. Just plug it in and you have many options for slideshows with music and other options. PC input also very simple to hook up.

You will not be disappointed. Especially with the free shipping, no tax (for me at least) and the great amazon price, this HDTV cannot be beat!

Good picture and sound. Annoying lag between putting in the channel and the picture actually showing up. Headphone jack is on the back, meaning you have to have the space to turn the t.v. around to plug in headphones. When searching for a channel put in by number from the remote, it will go to a blank channel. Other brands I've had go to the next actual live channel - e.g. if I put in 5 on the keypad, the Toshiba goes to 5 - a blank screen. The actually channel is 5-1. Other t.v. brands have been smart enough to go to 5-1 when 5 is entered. For all the HD over-the-air channels I get, I have to click at least twice, then, to get my channel, and wait for the picture to show up.Get more detail about Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch Widescreen LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player (Black).

Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black) Top Quality

I was so excited when I got this tv. I saved up for it for a while and bought it. Once it arrived, I was so happy to set it up and then once I turned it on, I noticed a white line going across the screen around 3/4ths up. It made me so mad. So now I have to deal with the whole return process with this. Luckily amazon is giving me a 53 dollar credit on top of this tv for me to get a new one. So my advice on this tv is good luck! Everything else was fine with the TV though and it looks amazingly cool.Get more detail about Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black).
