I got this TV less than 6 months ago. Luckily for me I was still under warranty. One year with Samsung and an additional year with Costco. One minute I had picture and sound, the next only sound. One of the features that Samsung says that their televisions have is an Alarm System that turns the TV on in the morning. That was the main reason I purchased Samsung TV. Most other TV's only have a sleep time off feature.

After receiving the TV and hooking it up, I could not get the alarm feature to work. I spent hours on the phone with a Samsung Customer Service Rep who finally insisted that is was FIOS cable's problem. I then called FIOS and spent an hour with them arguing. They insisted it had nothing to do with them and that it was the TV's problem. I called Samsung back and the first level CS advisor tried very hard for quite a while and finally transferred me to the 2nd level Technical support. After trying for quite a while and he put me on hold and came back saying:

Cheap Samsung LNS3251D 32-Inch LCD HDTV

We bought this TV back in 2006 and it still looks great. It doesn't do 1080p, but at least it does 1080i. We don't have a blueray player and we actually got rid of HD cable service because it was so expensive (waiting for FiOS to hit our area) so we just have cheap cable and a rabbit Ear antenna, but it picks up HD signals over the air and the look great. We connect a laptop up to the TV to watch a lot of videos on HULU and they all look awesome, just as good as when we had an HD box and were DVRing the shows, except now we don't have to set the schedule.

I don't think this model is available anymore, i'm sure Samsung has a comparible model now.

Samsungs seem to be a bit more expensive but to this day still look better than most of the other TVs out there. I don't forsee us upgrading our TV for quite a while as this TV has all the connections we'd need and is big enough for our living room.

My friend just bought a very similar 22" and another friend just bought a similar 42" all from Samsung and they love them.

Sony BRAVIA V-Series KDL-40V5100 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV Best Quality

In the past, I have always had good luck with Sony TV's, and during the 1990's I had a Sony 32" Trinitron that provided a picture and sound that was superb in every respect, the state of the art for the time. It was with some disappointment, therefore, that I found that the TV industry's venture into the Brave New World of HD has saddled an entire generation of TV viewers with substandard sets that are in many respects far worse than the non-HD sets they have replaced. The Sony Bravia series is, unfortunately, no exception to this rule.

The Sony Bravia KDL-40V5100 is best when viewing live sports events. If you like to watch golf, basketball and football, and little else, this is the TV for you. Unfortunately, the Bravia does not do as well in other situations. Here are some of the flaws I have noticed:

(1) Picture problems. The only settings that produce an acceptable picture are in the Vivid range. Turning off the automatic contrast enhancer helps, but the picture quality in most cases is still unacceptable. At its best, the picture is sharp and crisp, giving great definition, but even on many HD channels there is considerable degradation of picture quality, with feathering and blurring quite noticeable.

The less said about non-HD channels the better. The picture performance in non-HD is abysmal, with dark scenes turning black and light scenes whiting out.

Similarly, no matter what the player, non-HD DVDs upconvert poorly. Using an ordinary non-HD TV to play DVDs is a far better choice, and an important one if, like me, you have a large collection of these now obsolete items.

Moreover, for anyone who has a multi-system non-HD TV set (i.e., one that can play PAL and SECAM in addition to the inferior NTSC format used in the USA), the picture quality for DVDs is so much better than on the Sony Bravia that there is really no comparison.

In addition, of course, the Sony Bravia series has significant fading problems when viewed from the side, and it is grossly inferior in this respect to Plasma and normal non-HD TV sets.

(2) Screen. The high gloss screen and plastic borders are totally unsuited to TV viewing. A Matte screen and non-glare borders would provide far more comfortable viewing in all but a darkened theater situation. Any light source reflects off the screen, and is worse than for a regular non-HD TV. In this respect, Plasma TVs are vastly superior.

(3) Sound. The sound is OK most of the time, but there are periodic and inexplicable dropouts, as well as hissing and popping, problems that are not helped by changing the connections to HDMI. There is something fundamentally wrong with the sound system on the Sony 40V5100, and Sony better fix it fast if they don't want a class-action lawsuit. Sound levels also vary markedly from channel to channel for reasons that are not immediately apparent.

(4) Controls. The remote control is awkward to operate, with switching from TV to DVD to PC taking up to 15 seconds. Similarly, it takes about 15 seconds for the TV to turn on, once you have pressed the "on" button for a sufficiently long time to persuade the little green "power on" light to finally put in an appearance. When changing channels, the lengthy handshake procedure results in a two-second delay from HD to HD, and five seconds from HD to non-HD, and often a green screen before the next channel displays. Once again, why am I supposed to view this as an improvement over a regular non-HD TV, where channel changing is virtually instantaneous?

In sum, the Sony Bravia series is a big disappointment. Its one indisputable advantage is that, in comparison to Plasmas and non-HD TVs, it is very light, so when the time comes to throw it away, it won't present a heavy lifting problem. I still have a couple of serviceable Sony WEGA non-HD TV's. They aren't as good as the old Trinitrons from the 1990's, but at least they are tolerable. I'm going to see how long I can keep them going. The Sony Bravia is going too, right out the door.

I have a request for anyone reading this review: please let me know when someone finally produces a decent HDTV. As far as I can tell, no one has accomplished this feat quite yet.

I have this hooked up to an antenna, and the picture from over the air is great. It is neat to see the different signals the TV stations are putting out on the extra digital channels. The picture looks very sharp and nice colors.
The sound on the TV is very good for the bedroom also. I can see that in a family room or living room this might not be loud enough, but I am not experiencing any of the "quiet" sound problems.
The base that came with the TV is a fixed mount that screws in with 2 screws. It seems sturdy enough, but there is no adjustment for viewing angles.

I bought this TV last February and it came with a 1-year warranty... 14 months later this thing goes on the fritz. The power starts flicking on and off repeatedly.

I call Samsung and they are NO help; they keep telling me to go on [...] to find my nearest service agent and when I do that the 'nearest service agent is in Arizona (I'm in Illinois). Just for the fun of it I looked it up and they are over 1600 miles away. -No help.

I give up on Samsung and call a local repair guy; he comes out and changes some caps which is usually the problem, but not this time apparently. Turns out to be the T-Con board and he says that they don't sell those without the whole screen attachment and it would cost $1400 to fix (bought the TV for $1350).

I get online and found a store that sells Samsung T-Con Panels and they seem to have every other T-Con panel but mine. I googled the product number (LJ63-05707A) and it got ONE HIT. Unfortunately that one hit was a website telling me they had no matches.

After plenty of research I've discovered that this is a recurring problem with this model and Samsung simply tries to ignore or hide it. I'm going to post this everywhere I possibly can to try and get the word out.

I can't bear to throw away a $1400 TV so I guess it's going in the basement and I'll check every couple of months to see if that part comes on the market.

This was not the 32 inch that I wanted but by a convenient event I got it. After setting it up and watching it for a few week now, I am not sorry. The picture quality using standard definition connections is amazing almost HD quality. The color is brilliant,The blacks are black and the whites white. There is no fading from side viewing and the sound is above average. The one draw back here is the number of available standard definition connections the set have. 1 component and 1 composite. There is no S-video. This I find is room for improvement because if you have more than 2 older pieces of audio video equipment then you need to purchase a multimedia scaler or something like that to use them with this TV.

That aside the TV is a really great purchase for a small room like a bedroom or small family room. 4 stars and not 5 because It should have had another 1 or 2 standard def connections. I got this TV a few weeks ago. Very pleased with the number of ports (we used to have an old CRT with just ONE component input, so we got used to switching cables all the time). We don't have HD cable yet, but man this TV upscales very nicely, I was very afraid that standard def TV would look like crap. But yea, when using my PS3 it looks absolutely amazing. I was also worried about 60Hz, I almost wanted to move up the 120Hz but as a casual user, I don't think I'd even notice the difference.

The USB port on the side is very handy, and supports a surprising number of file formats! Not quite VLC, but way more than I'd expect to be built into a TV. We keep an external HDD hooked up to the side and keep all our media on it, it's like a built in media center!

The DVD player works without hesitation and in alll honesty, I cannot tell you that I have any regrets in the purchase of this item. If I must list any complaint about it, it would be that the sound volume on some channels that I view appears to be lower than others. I seriously doubt that it's the cause of anything to do with the television receiver as opposed to the cable company's failure to check their sending levels. The channel changer may appear to be somewhat slow in changing channels, but even that is negligable. When you consider the overall operation of this device, I cannot say to anyone "do not buy it". The price was good, the operation is excellent and I am currently seriously considering buying another one exactly like it to put in my bedroom. I own the Samsung LN46A550 LCD TV for about 16 months. The TV suddently turns on and off automaticallly every 30 seconds. I contacted Samsung Service dept. and was told it is out-of-warrenty. I have to pay the service charge on my own. It is a known manfacture defect and Samsung does not stand behind their products. I have talk with CS superisor and Customer Relationship and they all used the same excecuse that the product is out-of-warrenty. So watch out for the problem and I will never buy another Samsung TV. Hooked up an Mac Mini to the HDMI port. For the audio from the computer to the tv, you just connect a 1/8" (3.5mm) Stereo Male to 1/8" (3.5mm) Stereo Male cable between the computer and TV. (The tv doesn't have an digital/toslink audio out port).

I bought this television because it was time to replace the bulb in my JVC rear projection. The Samsung LN55C650 fit my price and size requirements, I did look at a couple of Vizo or whatever from Wal-Mart because they are by far some of the cheapest LCD TV's I have seen but what can I say, you get what you pay for.

I have had the LN55C650 for only a couple of days and I must admit that I have had a hard time finding another LCD that even compares with this one on picture quality. I did find that the 120hz option tends to make high action scenes kinda jumpy, but you can turn it off with great ease. The TV also has internet apps like Pandora, YouTube, and Netflix(although my email today from Samsung's tech support let me know that it is not just my TV, none of the C650 models can actually use Netflix... yet... You can install it and look at a screen that tells you to update (there isn't one yet). The Samsung rep did tell me that it will be fixed soon though and with this TV's price I can wait a couple of months for an update.
DLNA on this TV worked like a charm for me using nothing more than the DLNA media server built into WMP 11.
